Question:
Dear Dr. Haley,
I believe in chiropractor's helping. My daughter was injured at birth by our obstetrician also(the o.b. got away with it though).  My daughter has a complete brachial plexus injury. My question is How can I find out if my chiropractor is a good one and not a quack?  After experiencing what my o.b. did to my daughter, I don't trust doctors very much. My daughter is seven, we did take her to a chiropractor when she was two yrs old until she was 3 1/2...recently I took her again, but since my insurance  didn't cover it, the cost was going to cost me $50-$75 a visit. There is a chiropractor near me, that only charges $20...that's what his sign says outside of his building in a mini mall area.   Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, the last chiropractor I visited said my daughter's neck was curved almost in the opposite direction, how could that be possible? We had her lay  with a rolled towel under her neck for 15 minutes and she would always wake up the next morning saying her throat hurt.

Thanks again and God bless you and that website!!!!!!! I was blessed by the brachial plexus testimony of Ashleigh...what a beautiful baby!

I encourage you to take your daughter to a chiropractor that does pediatric adjusting. A pediatric chiropractor will probably advertise specializing in pediatrics and/or family care. Your chiropractor should have his/her mission to correct subluxations (spinal injuries with nerve damage). I would avoid chiropractors that advertise pain relief or auto accident care as their selling points. I would avoid chiropractors whose primary focus is therapy rather than vertebral adjustments.

Also, $50 - $75 dollars per visit gets expensive. The adjustments are worth it, but it can be difficult to get sufficient care for your child at those rates. Many family chiropractors offer care plans such as $35.00 per week per person unlimited care (like one or three visits per week for $35).  Others may be $120.00 per month, etc.  These doctors may see as many as 2 - 3 hundred patients per day (or even more!). while this seems unbelievable, they tend to be the best loving chiropractors that get the best results. They are true servants. You don't get much one on one time with the doctor. They just move bones so nerves work better and God heals the patients. I hope this makes sense.

While many may look down on this style of practice because of little time with the doctor, I have seen God honor it and patients get well from this type of care.

If you have questions, write back or call at (954) 969-8800.

God Bless You.
Sincerely,
Michael Haley, D.C.
